Avast web shield constantly tests the information that moves when you browse the internet and stops any infections that could be a threat in real-time. This protects you against ransomware which locks your files and requires a payment in order to unlock them. It also protects you from Trojans which pose as legitimate software, but actually infect your device with malware. Web shield also identifies phishing websites which attempt to steal your personal data.

Avira provides multiple options to alter the way avast web shield performs. For example, you can change the sensitivity level, which regulates how much avast’s web shield scans the data when you connect to the internet. You can also enable or disable HTTPS scanning as well as script scanning. You can also stop botnet attacks. You can also make an exclusion list to block certain programs from being detected by the web shield.

If avast detects malware, or a potentially unwanted program on your system, avast will try to fix the file first. If the file is not repaired it will be transferred to Quarantine. You will also be notified. You can also select an action for avast to take if the virus is detected.

If a website or app which you have verified to be safe is blocked by avast you can add it to the list of exceptions to ensure that it is never blocked again. This can be done by clicking the Real-Time Shields tab, and then selecting the Web Shield or File Shield item from the list. The method for adding a website or application to the list of exceptions is slightly different for the Avast Security and Avast One apps.
